Artist Statement:

"My paintings are primarily narrative landscapes, in which there are references to mysterious happenings or even unusual couplings of images. Some of them are quite metaphysical, with energy or light emanating from plants or mountains in the landscapes. Figures leap through the air and the skies may vibrate subtly.

 

In the past year, I have been exploring the idea of 'passionate landscapes'. In these small images, I consider several different types of passion: sexual, violent, and simple beauty. Passionate means something deeply felt deep so some of the landscapes simply depict a view that I am passionate about. Deserts are beautiful strange places, filled with passion and longing, and today violent crimes are committed in deserts all over the world.

 

The Milagro windows are the first in a new series, based on my belief that immigrants need a great deal of assistance in arriving in the USA, just as my ancestors did 200 - 300 years ago. (In fact all of us are immigrants to the 'new world', none of us originally lived here.) The ability to fly through the air is based in human dreams and fantasies, the concept is as old as human yearnings."
