Collaborative artists Chadwick & Spector (Chadwick Gray & Laura Spector) have spent twenty years traveling the world in search of hidden and destroyed paintings from museum basements. Together, they re-envision lost images onto the contorted nude male body. Recently, their focus has been recreating stolen paintings found on the F.B.I. Art Crime database onto mutated plaster body parts. Museum Anatomy is on display for the first time at Redbud Gallery.

Museum Anatomy has been created in conjunction with museums in twelve countries. After selecting a painting to work from, the artists reinterpret the image using special effects make up onto the human body. This process takes anywhere from 8-15 hours. The ephemeral paintings are then documented through photography. The sculptural oil paintings they create may take up to one year to complete.

Chadwick & Spector met during undergraduate school in Virginia. Their life-long friendship has journeyed through many countries, marriage, divorce and multiple studio cats. Today, they continue seeking destroyed, stolen, lost and hidden works of art to paint onto Chadwick's fleshy canvas.
