"Habana Scene" Color Digital 16"x 20" y. 2003 William Graham Artist Emergency Fund Benefit Redbud Gallery is hosting the inaugural one time exhibition, Messing with Texas, Lurking In Cuba ,Photographs by Roy Cullen, on September 11, 2004, 7 to 9 PM. The public is invited to attend and purchase the photos. All proceeds will be for the benefit of the William Graham Artist Emergency Fund. The William A. Graham Artist Emergency Fund was founded in 1993 to honor the memory of Bill Graham, whose gallery supported and promoted local and regional artists. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, without any paid staff, run by an all volunteer Board of Directors. 100% of funds go directly to visual artists to deal with unforeseen emergency situations. It is the only fund of its kind for the Houston area. To date, the Fund has given out over $24,000.00 to 15 artists. Grants have been awarded for serious medical conditions ranging from cancer treatment to bypass surgery, to replace stolen tools and equipment, for injuries while installing work, and for tornado damage to an artist's studio. Although the awards are modest, they have had an enormous impact on the recipients, who often had no insurance. The Fund provided a major boost in times of severe crisis and offered hope to artists who were feeling desperate. It has made a real difference in their abilities to get treatment, to keep their studio and to pursue their livelihoods and careers. Gus
